WILLIAM BAZIOTES (1912-1963) Am. painter. A leading Abstract-Expressionist, along with Jackson Pollock and De Kooning. From 1939 on, he was Pollock's liaison to the American Surrealists. His influence was large on Pollock, even to the extent of first demonstrating the drip technique to him in 1936. The legendary art critic, Clement Greenburg, said ....the future of American art depends on what [Motherwell], Baziotes, Pollock, and only a comparatively few others do from now on... The drawings offered here are all from the collection of Harry and Constance Baziotes, the brother and sister of the artist. All are unsigned.
